10 craziest Hugo Chavez moments

You probably already know that Hugo Chavez is one of our favorite politicians ever. And to praise his achievements we combined a list the best Hugo Chavez’s accomplishments as the head of state of Venezuela. We called the list the “10 craziest moments” because it gets unbelievably crazy as you may guess. So let’s roll the tape.

1) U.S. is responsible for the earthquake in Haiti, China and probably the one in Japan. This is an absolute number one in our opinion. Last year after the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti, which claimed the lives of 200,000 innocents, Hugo Chavez announced that the tragedy was caused by a secret U.S. military weapon, which can set off catastrophic earthquakes like that in Haiti. Chavez also claimed that the U.S. was behind a 7.8-magnitude earthquake in China in 2008. According to him, the U.S. is in possession of a shockwave system that can create “weather anomalies to cause floods, droughts and hurricanes” and earthquakes. And obviously the Americans are using the weapon to exterminate hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Let’s wait a few days and the chances are that Hugo Chavez will repeat his statement blaming the U.S. for the Japanese earthquake as well. Here is a link to the report from Fox News about Hugo’s craziest moment ever.

2) Supporting war criminal and terrorist Muammar Qaddafi. In the recent days, Hugo Chavez got world’s attention again by expressing his absolute devotion and support for a war criminal and terrorist Muammar Qaddafi, whom the UN Security Council recently referred for investigation by the ICC for war crimes against humanity and genocide on the Libyan nation. Qaddafi’s regime was expelled from the UN Human Rights Council and suspended in the Arab League. But it doesn’t really bother Chavez and he continues to back Qaddafi. Go here to read a good story on Chavez’s support for murderous Muammar.

3) Promoting Chomsky’s book at United Nations. Yeah, that was a weird moment too, when Chavez promoted Prof. Chomsky’s book during his speech at the United Nations. We recently interviewed Noam Chomsky for our magazine and admit that his criticism of the U.S. foreign policy is insightful in some areas. Nevertheless, apparently Mr. Chomsky became another victim of Hugo Chavez’s false public relations image (among other prominent victims including Sean Penn or Oliver Stone.) In 2009, Mr. Chomsky met Chavez and was quoted saying: “I write about peace and criticize the barriers to peace; that’s easy. What’s harder is to create a better world… and what’s so exciting about […] Venezuela is that I can see how a better world is being created.” And Mr. Chomsky got fooled. The only thing that Chavez created in Venezuela is a small hell, were a gallon of milk costs a few times more than a gallon of gas, where poverty is omnipresent and human rights are constantly violated. Even in foreign policy, Hugo Chavez is not a Chomsky’s student. Chomsky, who was so against the ruthless U.S. foreign policy in Latin America from the past, can see today that Hugo Chavez is publicly supporting war criminal Qaddafi, who is murdering thousands of people on a daily basis. How is that better?

4) A failed Bolivarian revolution. That’s a crazy thing but also a very sad one for the Venezuelan people. The Bolivarian revolution was supposed to create a better place for living but it failed completely. Let’s summarize what Chavez’s experiment brought on Venezuela: (a) almost 30% annual inflation rate with a modest exception of 2006-2008 when it dropped to 16-18%; (b) a murder rate of civilians higher than that in Iraq: 4,644 civilians died from violence in Iraq in 2009, but in Venezuela the murder rate climbed above 16,000 at the same time; (c) food prices: in January 2011 the food prices in Venezuela soared 37.2% above the country’s inflation rate of 28%. That’s crazy!!! Who can live like that?

5) The exhumation of Simon Bolivar. That’s a really ridiculous stuff showing that Chavez has some serious mental problems. The exhumation of Simon Bolivar was absolutely unnecessary and insulting to his descendants and the nation. Chavez tried to use an allegation of Simon Bolivar’s assassination to fuel tensions with a neighboring Colombia and lure it into a mini-war. Read our contributor’s, Thor Halvorssen, story on the issue and then you will realize how crazy it was.

6) An assault on Globovision and Twitter. Hugo Chavez has closed down almost all opposition radio and TV stations in the country over the last couple of years. He has also made an attempt to eliminate the free press. The only remaining bastions of oppositions were Globovision, Facebook and Twitter. But last year, a National Assembly controlled by Chavez passed a new media law allowing him to close down Globovision and shut down social media for subversive actions should he decided to so.

7) Calling George Bush “Diablo” at the United Nations. Well, this one is more controversial because a lot of Democrats in the U.S. actually loved what Hugo Chavez did, even though their own President was insulted. Recently we saw Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton taking pictures and shaking hands with Hugo Chavez, what seemed at least somewhat strange. Nevertheless, the Democrats aside, we need to admit that Hugo Chavez is a very brave boy. He comes to the U.S. and screams out loud that American President is a devil. And then he goes back to Venezuela and puts in jail all people who dare to publicly criticize Chavez’s regime. Really, really brave boy.

8 ) Preparing another Cuban-missile crisis and manufacturing the New World Order. Simon Wiesenthal Center and the German newspaper Die Welt revealed last year that Chavez signed an agreement with Iran to establish a military platform in Venezuela for deployment of Shahab 3 missiles (range 1300 – 1500 km), together with Scud-B’s (range 285 – 330 km) and Scud C’s (range 300, 500, 700 km). At the same time, the media reported that Chavez is preparing to launch its own nuclear program with the help of Iran. Well, he truly seems like a peace-loving guy.

9) Hating Big Boobs. Hugo Chavez hates big boobs (and he probably doesn’t even realize how wrong he is on this one). Speaking last week in a state television he blasted plastic surgeons for fixing and enlarging women’ breasts in Venezuela. He prefers Venezuela to be a small boobs country.

10) Persecuting opposition leaders. Let’s finish with this one, which is as crazy and scary as any of the above. Hugo Chavez is using all powers he can gather to persecute the opposition leaders beginning from disallowing Leopoldo Lopez to run for office, expropriating and destroying Diego Arria’s real estates and expelling Manuel Rosales from the country. Chavez brutally threatens and persecutes opposition leaders on a daily basis. It is therefore not only a matter of good politics, but also of great personal courage and statesmanship to lead any opposition movement in Venezuela.
